Beyond Myself with Disbelief

This review has been resolved or replied to by this company.
I've been reading others experiences with the return policy at Home Depot and decided to share my own disbelief.

Late October 2011 I purchase two LG300 Vacuum Cleaners, one for myself and another for a family member using up store credit and gift cards. I did not know at the time of purchase that the vacuum is a discontinued item but it was on sale for $194ish plus tax (I'd have to pull my receipt to see the exact amount) so I bought them.

A week later I went to visit my daughter in northern California taking her birthday gift, the vacuum, with me. While I was there I found the exact vacuum online with shipping and sales tax for $115. I figured HD would at least match the $115 price plus tax making it about $125.

With ad in hand, original receipt in hand I went to the Home Depot in my daughter's town. I was told my a lady identifying herself as a manager that I could not get the item price matched because I had used store credit. One of the employees then told me to get someone else to come and it will go through. So I did just that. She was told that it had to be done at the original store of purchase which just happened to be 600 miles away.

Almost a month later when I returned home from my visit in northern California, I went to the exact store where I had purchased the vacuums and warranty, Home Depot Cypress California. This time I was told too much time had passed.

A week later when I was in the store I happened to see a manager mentioning to her this dilemna. She looked into it right away but was unable to do anything because the online company was out of stock -- duhhhhha yad think.

The copy of the ad has since been discarded since it has now been almost 3 months.

I was going to just return the vacuums but I'd have to go all the way to my daughter's to get hers so I can return it.

So, not very happy that Home Depot did not do their promised price match.

Oh, the vacuum is pretty nice except the duster is poorly designed.

This issue was NEVER RESOLVED!! Home Depot never price matched. Even the manager at the Cypress store told me he recalled getting an email about this but there was nothing he could do because to much time had passed.

Headup to everyone. HOME DEPOT'S PROMISE TO PRICE MATCH IS BOGUS. If you find it less somewhere else, go buy it there and return your original purchase to Home Depot.

Hello Rob.

I don't know if my reply was received so I am submitting it again.

I am very much aware of the "price matching" policies of Home Depot. What I was not aware of was that many stores refuse to honor their own policies.

That was my experience with the issue of the two vaccums.

Now I know I should have immediately ordered from the company I found online (by the way, they do have a physical store but it was on the East Coast).

Next, I should have had my daughter just return her vaccum for a full refund when she went in per the employee's instructions to get the price match.

Finally, I should have returned mine upon my return to my hometown.

Thus I could have wiped my hands from the lies and trickery of the Home Depot.

Hello Robert.

I do not need you to clarify price matching policy. The store managers have already done that. All I needed was the store to conform to the policy.

I understand why the store where I purchase the items could not price match --- the company I wanted them to match was now out of stock --- however, the Redding store dropped the ball. The other company had the items in stock. Redding store had the item in stock. They were just being difficult about the price match. I did not have to travel 600 miles to the original store of purchase to have the price matching done. I should have just returned both vaccums for a full refund and wiped my hands clean of the lies and trickery I've been experiencing at Home Depot.
