Goodby Home Depot

The Home Depot store in Waterford, CT fired an employee for interfering with a shoplifter who had just wheeled a shopping cart full of chainsaws out the door. Home depot says he should have smiled and said: "Have a nice day!" It seems the company is promoting a culture of cowardice and firing the good guys. (see letters to the editor at www.theday.com for Wednesday, September 17, 2008)

I've spent about $50,000 there over the years for my home and busnesses. Never again will I step foot in one of their stores. Lowe's is the winner!

That is the company's policy. If you worked in a warehouse and were told you had to wear safety goggles but didn't, you would be reprimanded. Those rules are for the empoyees' and customers' safety. They are enforced for a reason. Every employee is aware of this policy, and if they break the policy, they know it's grounds for termination. Right or wrong, it's the rules, and they are crystal clear.
