Defective toilet caused damage and Home Depot refuses to stand behind product - Glacier Bay toilet (exclusive Home Depot product)
My husband installed a toilet we purchased from Home Depot . He has installed many toilets over 37 years we have owned our home. The day after installation the toilet leaked and ruined sheetrock and flooring below. We called a variety of repairmen. We had the sheetrock and the entire floor of the upstairs bathroom replaced. We then had the handyman install the toilet again, with a new seal. Same thing--the toilet leaked. We then had all of the pipes leading to the toilet from downstairs replaced--the only thing left to do. Still leaked! We returned the toilet and got a new one. This time no problem. We were told by the Home Depot installer (we paid this time to have it done) that the toilet had to have been defective--he said lots of times, that is the case. Home Depot (the "do it yourself" retailer) agreed the toilet was defective (we received an official letter from them acknowledging this) but said they would not cover the damages since we didn't PAY to have the original installation done by Home Depot. Seems to go against every philosophy and policy they SAY they are about. I contacted several people within Home Depot, from the store manager to the "Resolution" Department. Nope--they won't budge and now don't even return my calls or requests for the name of a supervisor, etc. No more Home Depot for us. I have documentation for all of this!
